Influence
Speak slow
emotions makes you talk faster. Fast speech increases cognitive load to the listener => speak 10% slower of your usual speed.
Make others feel clever
"There is a missing person, neighbors last seen her having an argument with her boyfriend" => Inner voice says: I bet the BF did it! => feels clever.
Cognitive dissonance
make them uncomfortable by bringing to awareness that the way they see the world does not match up with their actions. Ask them for their identity then ask for actions proving it.
If you answer their question, you already lost
Most questions are not requests for information. They are frames. They decide guilt and power. The moment you answer you accept the frame. Fight back:
- clarify the frame - "What are you assuming when you ask that?" => forces a hidden accusation into the open
- narrow the frame down - "Are you asking about intent or outcome?" => forces them to choose => vague attacks will collapse.
- flip the frame for process - "What would change for you if I answered that?" => if they wanted the truth, this moves things forward. If they wanted control, this exposes it.
You don't loose arguments because you answer questions. You loose because you answer the wrong questions. Newer answer the frame. Always control it.
Silence is power
the less you speak, the more it weighs.
